The Center for Autophagy, Recycling and Disease (CARD) was established in 2015 as a collaborative project between the Cell Death and Metabolism group (CDM), headed by Professor Marja Jäättelä, the Cell Stress and Survival group (CSS), headed by Professor Francesco Cecconi, and the Genome Integrity group (GIG), headed by Professor Jiri Bartek. In 2016, Associate Professor Elena Papaleo, head of the Cancer Structural Biology group (CSB), joined the CARD.
The CARD Center of Excellence is funded by the Danish National Research Foundation (DNRF) and is hosted by the Danish Cancer Society Institute (DCI).
After a successful evaluation of the scientific output in 2019, the DNRF has extended financial support for the CARD until 2024.
