Organelle-Targeting Autophagy
We will elucidate the molecular basis of cellular responses to organelle dysfunction, coordination of the relevant signaling mechanisms, and their (patho)physiological consequences
Autophagy can selectively eliminate specific proteins and organelles, thereby affecting cell signaling with impact on cellular energy balance, redox status, cell cycle progression, cell survival, genomic integrity and tumorigenesis. We will investigate the molecular basis and cellular consequences of the autophagic removal of selected organelles.
Our studies will concentrate on four different areas:
- Mitophagy
- Lysophagy and plasma membrane repair
- Nucleophagy
- Ribosome biogenesis stress and ribophagy
