Background to the DCH cohorts
The Diet, Cancer and Health and the Diet, Cancer and Health - Next generations cohorts together result in a large three-generational cohort.
The Diet, Cancer and Health (DCH) cohort
The Diet, Cancer and Health cohort (DCH) recruited 57,053 persons in 1993-1997. At recruitment, the participants completed a food frequency questionnaire and a lifestyle questionnaire, and biological material was collected (blood, urine, fat biopsies and toenail clippings). This cohort has been the basis for more than 1000 scientific articles investigating the association between numerous exposures in relation to cancer and other diseases.

The Diet, Cancer and Health - Next Generations (DCH-NG) cohort
The Diet, Cancer and Health – Next Generations (DCH-NG) cohort study is a large population-based family study that was established in 2015 to 2019. The study is an extension of the population-based Diet, Cancer and Health (DCH) cohort study and includes adult biological children and grandchildren of members of the original cohort thereby becoming a cohort of three generations. The other parent (usually not biologically linked to a DCH cohort member) of the grandchildren is also included. In total, 39,554 participants with complete data were recruited in 2015-2019. Participants completed questionnaires, a physical examination and collection of biological material.
