Experimental and Technical Support
The Experimental and Technical Support core facility assists the research groups at DCI. The facility consists of smaller groups, each with their specific function or expertise
Supporting the many wet-lab researchers at DCI, a core facility handling and assisting in all experimental and technical service functions has been established.
Animal Facility
The animal core facility in DCI offers experiments requested by in-house users with a small number of external users. The facility consists of 6 animal stables, GMO class I facilities, washing, autoclaving and storing facilities.
In close collaboration with the researchers at DCI we perform the experiments requested and we raise and breed several transgenic and immunodeficient mouse lines to be used in experiments. All permissions to do animal experiments are kept by the leader of the facility, Helle V. Petersen.
The facility is run, maintained and financed by DCI, and users of the facility are charged based on the time consumption used by the animal staff for their experiments.
Besides breeding and maintaining several transgenic lines, we offer a wide range of expertise’s such as:
- Implantation of:
- Tumor cells: SC, MFP
- Tumor tissue
- Administration of drugs: IP, SC, IV, PO, IT, nasal
- Bloodsampling
- Tear collection
- GTT, ITT
- Tumor measurement
- Surgical procedures:
- Removal of primary tumors
- Inter cranial injections
- Insertion of pumps
- Autopsies
- Endoscopy
The facility consists of a staff of 3-4 animal caretakers and 1 student. All animal caretakers are highly specialised and experienced in performing animal experiments, especially within cancer models.
A well-functioning animal welfare body exists consisting of the animal facility staff together with members of the technical group. A consultant veterinarian is inspecting the facility on a regular basis every 4 months.
Laboratory Support
The laboratory support team assists researchers within the areas of histology, FACS training and service, and general laboratory work, both specialised and basic. The support team also assists with purchase, common stock, and maintenance of the cell bank. The support team also includes a service technician, handling service, repair and maintenance of equipment at DCI.
